Information on Huang Yan’s specific elemental weaknesses is still being gathered. Check back later for updates.

The Mistress has high resistance to Stab and Blunt attacks. Therefore, using weapons that deal Slash damage is the most effective approach in this fight.

How to Beat Mistress of the Night Huang Yan

Section titled “How to Beat Mistress of the Night Huang Yan”

Follow these tips and strategies to overcome the Mistress of the Night.

  1. You can use a cheese strategy for her first phase. For this to work, you must position yourself in the corner of the entrance door at the start of the fight. The Mistress needs to teleport to your location. Bait her to the edge of the platform and then continuously attack to apply crowd control, like brief staggers. Maintain this assault until she reaches half health. Her second phase begins at this point, where she transforms into an Arctic Fox and can easily get unstuck, rendering the cheese ineffective.

  2. Equip Blunt, Frostbite, and Corruption Resistances

Section titled “Equip Blunt, Frostbite, and Corruption Resistances”

Huang Yan is a spell-focused boss whose attacks frequently inflict Frostbite and Corruption. Her physical attacks, such as her frost-infused kicks, deal Blunt damage. Equip armor and use consumables that boost your resistance to these damage types and status effects to increase your survivability.

  3. Since the Mistress often maintains her distance, a Spell Build can be highly effective, allowing you to damage her from afar. Consider using builds centered around weapons like the Magic Shortsword or the Flame Spear. Recommended weapons include:

    • Stagger Longsword
    • Flame Spear
    • Immortal Axe
    • Clash Dual Blades
    • Magic Shortsword

Even with a ranged build, remain vigilant. She can teleport close to you for surprise melee attacks that build up frostbite.

  4. Your best chances to attack (Openings) are often right before her own attacks conclude, but this can be risky. There are several safer moments to strike:

    • She becomes stationary for a moment when her fox scarf lets out an icy breath.
    • She is vulnerable when she taps her lantern to unleash a red shockwave.
    • When she floats in the air to summon a giant homing orb, she remains still. However, you must simultaneously dodge the corruption projectiles it fires.
    • You can land a hit during her footwork combos right as she raises her bent knee, provided you successfully dodge the incoming kick.
  5. Increasing your FOV in the game’s settings is highly recommended. A wider view helps you track the numerous corruption-infused projectiles she summons around the arena. This allows you to effectively dodge the projectiles while keeping your focus on the Mistress herself.

Huang Yan’s attack patterns change once her health drops to 50%.

Initially, her moveset is a mix of attacks that deal Blunt, Frostbite, or Corruption damage.

MoveDetails
Twirling KicksThe Mistress inhales ice from her pipe while raising a bent knee, then unleashes two quick, frost-infused kicks. Move away from the initial animation to avoid the first kick, then dodge the second.
Frost StompShe raises her leg and stomps the ground, creating a frosty mist on impact. Dodge away when you see her begin this move. It often concludes her footwork combos.
Aerial StompShe begins a footwork animation, then leaps into the air and stomps down on your position. Dodge just as she is about to land; dodging too early during her jump will likely result in getting hit.
Front Kick and StompThe Mistress performs a footwork animation, does a front kick, and follows it with a stomp. Move away as soon as the animation starts to avoid the kick, then dodge the stomp.
TeleportWhile not a direct attack, she uses teleportation to close the distance. She may follow up immediately with a footwork attack without the usual starting animation. Keep locked on to track her and be ready to dodge.
Frosty BreathShe gently taps her arctic fox scarf, which then releases a cone of frosty breath in front of her. Dodge sideways to avoid it.
Corruption OrbsHuang Yan glances at her pipe and lantern, then fires five corruption orbs in a cone shape, twice. Keep your distance, as being hit by all orbs can be lethal. You can also dodge to the side.
Corruption ProjectilesShe points her smoking pipe at you, summoning objects that fire projectiles toward you. Constant movement is key to avoiding them, but you must also remain focused on the boss.
Giant Homing OrbShe summons a large, homing orb of corruption that fires smaller projectiles as it follows you. Keep your distance from the main orb and dodge the smaller shots until the orb dissipates.
Crimson BlastShe taps her lantern with her pipe, unleashing an area-of-effect blast around her. Dodge away from her as soon as you see her tap the lantern.

When her health is reduced by half, Huang Yan gains new attacks and the ability to transform.

MoveDetails
Consecutive Frost KicksThe Mistress executes four kicks in a row. The timing between each kick aligns well with the interval of your dodge, allowing you to evade each one consecutively.
Arctic FoxThe Mistress transforms into a giant Arctic Fox, resembling her scarf. It hovers in the air before lunging toward you. This attack is often followed by one of her footwork combos, so be prepared to dodge a second time.
