How to Beat Lu Hongliu
Section titled “How to Beat Lu Hongliu”This fight is a test of aggression and recognizing key openings. Capitalizing on her Burn weakness and attacking during specific moves will make this encounter much more manageable.
Exploit Her Weakness to Fire
Section titled “Exploit Her Weakness to Fire”Inflicting the Burn status effect will cause Lu Hongliu to flinch, interrupting her attacks and creating a valuable opening for damage. Here are the primary ways to build up Burn:
- Bone Needle - Flame: An incantation obtained after defeating the Man-Eating Dhutanga.
- Echo of Dhutanga: A potent ability also acquired from the Man-Eating Dhutanga.
- Infernal Flames: Found in Worship’s Rise by defeating a fire-dancing enemy.
- Burning Flames: Dropped by an enemy in Doomwillow Beach.
If you lack these spells, Fire Pots or Fiery Flying Daggers can also apply Burn from a safe distance.
Attack During the Sideward Blood Vomit
Section titled “Attack During the Sideward Blood Vomit”When Lu Hongliu performs her side-to-side Blood Vomit attack, she remains completely stationary. This is a prime opportunity to close the distance and land several hits.
Capitalize on Her Mid-Fight Transition
Section titled “Capitalize on Her Mid-Fight Transition”When Lu Hongliu’s health drops to approximately 50%, she will perform a lengthy “tantrum” animation. After this sequence concludes, she remains immobilized for about 7 seconds. Wait for the entire move to finish, then unleash your strongest combos for a massive burst of damage.
Lu Hongliu Moveset
Section titled “Lu Hongliu Moveset”Lu Hongliu has two distinct phases. Her attack patterns become more aggressive and gain new moves once her health is reduced to 50%.
Phase 1: 100% HP
Section titled “Phase 1: 100% HP”-
Swift Charge Lu Hongliu crosses her arms and dashes directly at you. Dodge forward just before she makes contact. This is often followed immediately by her Lunge Attack.
-
Lunge Attack She leaps and performs two quick slashes upon landing. Dodge diagonally forward to get behind her and counter-attack.
-
Blood Vomit (Side to Side) She spews a stream of blood from her right to her left. This is a great window to sprint towards her and attack, as she is locked in the animation.
-
Blood Vomit (Upward) She spews blood straight up, which then rains down. Dodge to the side and then away from her, as this is usually followed by a Head Smash.
-
Head Smash She repeatedly smashes her head into the ground. Dodge backward to avoid each consecutive impact.
-
Quick Claw Combo A rapid, five-hit combo of downward claw strikes. The second hit is a double strike. Dodge backward repeatedly to stay safe.
-
Grab Attack A dangerous grab where she bites you for high damage. Dodge sideways as soon as you see her lunge for the grab to avoid it completely.
-
Ground Slam She rears up to gain momentum before slamming the ground with both hands. You can either dodge backward to safety or dodge forward just before the impact to get behind her.
Phase 2: 50% HP
Section titled “Phase 2: 50% HP”Once her health is halved, Lu Hongliu adds the following devastating attacks to her arsenal.
-
Violent Tantrum This is her phase transition move. She unleashes a flurry of strikes, roars, vomits blood, and smashes her head. It’s safest to stay away. When she finally unburrows her head, she is vulnerable for several seconds.
-
Tracking Blood Vomit She spews a slow-moving stream of blood that follows you. Sprint continuously to the side to outrun it.
-
Leaping Ground Smash Lu Hongliu leaps high into the air and crashes down with immense force. Dodge forward just before she lands to get behind her for a perfect chance to attack.
